Black Box Model - An AI model whose inner workings are mysterious and opaque. A black box model is one whose logic and predictions are difficult for humans to understand. This is because the model is too complex for easy analysis and interpretation.


Getting more Advanced: The complexity of machine learning models like deep neural networks makes their inner workings challenging to explain. While inputs go in and outputs come out, the reasoning and features driving the output is hidden in the model's layers and weights. This lack of transparency can make troubleshooting difficult. In contrast, white box models are designed for interpretability. Understanding black box model decisions is an active area of research, leading to techniques like LIME and SHAP for explainable AI.


Context/Relevance: Neural networks acting as black boxes has raised concerns when they are used in applications like healthcare, finance and criminal justice where transparency is critical.
